On February 8, the Faculty of Mathematics and Informatics at Vilnius University hosted the annual MIF Student Mathematics Olympiad. Participants had four hours to solve four challenging problems. The competition was won by Yunus Emre Tuzcu, a master’s student in Mathematics, who scored 33 out of 40 points. Originally from Turkey, Yunus came to Vilnius University as an Erasmus student in 2021-2022. Lithuania's nature and culture impressed him so much that he returned for full-time studies.

After the long holidays, the Faculty of Mathematics and Informatics of VU was filled not only with local students, but also with foreign students – 35 students from Azerbaijan, Greece, Spain, Italy, Kazakhstan, South Korea, Latvia, Portugal, France, Singapore, Taiwan, Spain, Turkey and South Korea came to VU MIF. They include 8 Masters students and one PhD student. Some of the students came under contracts from other VU faculties, but has chosen at least one field of study in MIF – it is students from Japan, Ukraine, Norway, Hong Kong, Colombia. The students came under the Erasmus+ exchange program, a bilateral agreement between universities, as well as for Lithuanian language courses.

On 18 February, the Faculty of Mathematics and Informatics of Vilnius University will host a visit by international experts from Estonian, Belgian, Slovenian, and Lithuanian universities and companies to evaluate the software engineering study field at Vilnius University. The visit is organised by the Centre for Quality Assessment in Higher Education. Experts will evaluate the first and second-cycle study programmes of the Faculty of Mathematics and Informatics and the Šiauliai Academy of Vilnius University. Faculty of Mathematics and Informatics enrols the most significant number of students in the bachelor's programme each year. At the same time, the Master's programme is offered not only on a full-time but also as a part-time programme. The experts' conclusions are, therefore, very important for further improving the quality of these studies.

Professor Valentina Dagiene from the Vilnius University Institute of Data Science and Digital Technologies (DMSTI) will receive an Honorary Doctorate from the University of Turku, Finland, during a ceremony on 15-16 May.

Graduates of the Faculty of Mathematics and Informatics at Vilnius University (VU MIF) received their diplomas during the winter graduation ceremony held in St. John's Church on February 3.
