Research projects are funded by the Lithuanian state, sponsors, and Lithuanian, European, and international research programmes.
The primary sources of research funding in Lithuania include national and bi/trilateral research cooperation agreements and the means of the Operational Programme for the European Union Funds' Investments in 2014-2020, which are both overseen by the Research Council of Lithuania, and other programmes and means supported by the Agency for Science, Innovation and Technology. Research funding is also provided by the State Commission of the Lithuanian Language and various ministries and agencies.
Currently, Vilnius University has access to the research funding opportunities and research policy database *Research Professional, and MIF staff are encouraged to use the database.
