Wondering what working at the European Centre for Nuclear Research (CERN) is like up close? You have the unique opportunity to go on an Erasmus internship at CERN in Switzerland.

The internship is open to undergraduate and postgraduate students in all fields of computer science and engineering. This is a great opportunity to participate in the day-to-day activities of CERN research teams, working in an interdisciplinary and multicultural environment. Alongside their work in the research teams, selected students are given lectures specifically designed to introduce theoretical and experimental particle physics and computational methods.

The internships take place in spring (February to April inclusive) and summer (July to September inclusive). Applications are accepted until 15 December (spring intake) and 10 June (summer intake), with the selection results published within 2 weeks. Students are admitted after 3 years of their field of study.

For final (fourth) year students, the CERN internship can be counted as a VU internship, and you will have to write and defend a report.

The internship does not exempt you from lectures, all exams and assessments will have to be settled by agreement with the lecturers.
