We would like to invite you to the seminar "Quantum Computing Today: Fundamentals, Challenges and Outreach". Speaker dr. Abuzer Yakaryilmaz from the University of Latvia says: "In this seminar we provide an accessible overview of the fundamentals of quantum computing, introducing key concepts and recent developments in the field. We briefly discuss the state of available quantum hardware, highlighting the main technological platforms and their capabilities.

The presentation also touches on the expectations surrounding quantum computing, including its transformative potential and the significant challenges that remain. Both optimistic and pessimistic scenarios are considered in terms of feasibility, scalability, and impact. "We then broaden the perspective by exploring the growing quantum ecosystem, including national quantum strategies and international initiatives to promote research, innovation, and workforce development," he adds.

"In the second part of the talk, I share insights from my personal experience in quantum education and outreach, focusing on the global initiative QWorld and its contributions to building a diverse and inclusive quantum community. I will also present ongoing and upcoming activities designed to engage learners worldwide and support the development of quantum literacy at multiple levels. With this seminar we will celebrate both World Quantum Day (April 14) and the International Year of Quantum Science and Technology 2025", says speaker A. Yakaryilmaz.

The seminar will be held on April 11 at 14 pm. Didlaukio street 47, room 103, VU MIF.

A. Yakaryilmaz also wants to invite students to another event - workshop "My Photonic Ship". During this event, participants will program a simple game, learn how to use the Google Colab environment and the Python quantum programming packages. The event will take place on April 12, 9-17 pm.
