A device used to speed the discovery of vaccines and drugs after a pandemic, to make the movie "Avatar", build model cars, and predict the weather. Eduardas Kutka, a lecturer at Vilnius universiy, faculty of Mathematics and Informatics (VU MIF), says that the possibilities of supercomputers are extremely wide. Being much more than an ordinary computer, it can perform complex calculations and computational operations much faster and more efficiently.

The supercomputer is also used by scientists to model the planet Earth and the processes that take place inside the Earth. "By the way, the research team has access to the supercomputer in their spare time, so they decided to create a simulation of the planet Araki (based on F. Herbert's book "Dune") and found that such a planet can exist", – says the scientist, adding a fun fact for science fiction fans.

Lecturer E. Kutka teaches courses on computer networking, cybersecurity, HPC and cloud computing.
