MIF Reading Room
The MIF Reading Room contains 90 study places, 4 of them are equipped with computers. Wi-Fi is available. Mathematics and Informatics Faculty Reading Room fund (48 000 pieces) concludes books, periodicals. The fund is mostly set up with books and scientific journals about mathematics, informatics, physical sciences, economy, pedagogics, and publications in various languages in other scientific fields. On the open access fund one can find circa 1000 books, mostly requested by the Reading Room visitors. The Faculty Reading Room also keep the end of the 19th century–the beginning of 20th century old books’ and periodicals’ collection. It is from the two Mathematics-Physical Science Faculty Libraries: University of Stephen Báthory (1919–1939) and Lithuanian University in Kaunas (1922–1939). Here also is preserved a book collection of ex-professor of Mathematics and Informatics Faculty Vytautas Paulauskas (1910–1991). VU central library
Vilnius University Library is an academic library of the national significance that was founded back in 1570 in Vilnius. Being the earliest academic library in the Baltics, it has in its holdings over five million documents, hosts about 45 thousand registered users and employs over 200 people. The Central Library is situated within a unique 16th-century architectural ensemble. It includes 14 reading rooms in total, and each and every one of them has individual architectural solutions implemented in hopes of creating an exceptional working environment. The rooms of the library are suited for working both individually and in groups; there are open spaces for casual conversations and a dedicated lounge room for quick meals; library publications are stored in open stacks. The mission of Vilnius University Library is to provide high-quality information services while fully meeting the needs of students, professors and researchers, to participate in the open science initiatives, and to open the rich scholarly and cultural heritage kept at the Library to the public. Vilnius University Library is open, modern and dynamic, while the environment it provides is perfect for work or simply relaxing with a book. Information Desk provides the following services: registration of new library users, administration of various payments, coupon printing as well as lending of headphones and memory card readers. Copy Room is located on the 3rd floor next to the Lounge Room. Here users can find 2 multifunctional devices for copying, printing or scanning. Please note that users must put some money on their virtual accounts at the Information Desk in the Central Library. Scholarly Communication and Information Centre (SCIC)
SCIC constructed in 2013, the modern building attempts to shape a creative and inspiring atmosphere, where every visitor could find a space suitable for his needs regarding information, technologies and relaxation. SCIC provides open library stacks, rooms for individual and group work, open reading rooms, lounge islands for a cosy conversation by a cup of coffee, and a playroom for children.
At the Main Information Desk you can: make payments; get user card; fill printing account, borrow headphones and other equipment; ask for information concerning the SCIC.
There are 34 rooms for individual work at the SCIC. These rooms are very popular during the exams period so it is advisable to make bookings in advance at the beginning of a semester. Rooms for individual work can be booked only by the members of VU community. Bachelor’s or Master’s students can book a Room for Individual Work for not more than seven days. Doctoral students, researchers and lecturers/professors can book a Room for Individual Work for up to half a year.
Three Rooms for Group Work each having four study spaces are situated at the Economics Reading Room. Two Rooms for Group Work each having eight study spaces are situated at the Physical Sciences Reading Room and Technology Reading Room.
Eight rooms for individual work at the Communication Reading Room are equipped with computers with special software: AutoCAD, CS6 Adobe Design Std 6, Matlab, Maple 16 Academic, SolidWorks, Origin Pro 8.6, Sony Vegas Movie Studio HD Platinum 11 Suite. The entire IT laboratory can be booked by VU Library users only for a short period of time – from one hour to 24 hours.
SCIC provides yet Copy Room, Seminae Rooms, Conference Hall, Reading Room for Parents and Children, Braille's Room, 3D Laboratory, Anteroom, Cafe.
