This September will mark the 30th anniversary of the boisterous and vibrant procession in which students, teaching staff, and other members of the Vilnius University (VU) community march together down Gediminas Avenue in Vilnius. Over the years, it has become a key element of the 1 September events in Lithuania’s capital. As we celebrate its anniversary, let us reflect on the origins of this tradition.

Vilnius University is delighted to welcome Professor Ting-Chia Hsu from the National Taiwan Normal University to the Faculty of Mathematics and Informatics. Professor Hsu's ground-breaking research in Informatics Education and Gamification Methods brings innovative approaches to transforming the way computational thinking is taught and learned.

On 24-30 June, Professor Valentina Dagienė visited Del University of Technology, met with students and professors, and gave lectures. Computational thinking (CT) was one of the most important topics discussed, so the tools, tasks and testing instruments developed by the CT&MatABLE project (coordinated by the Institute of Educational Science, Vilnius University) were discussed in detail.

Emanuel Galati, an Italian student, started his academic education by earning a Bachelor’s degree in Banking, Finance and Insurance Sciences at the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore. He then was offered Erasmus scholarships to pursue his master studies either in Lithuania or Brazil and, finally, was admitted to partial studies at the Faculty of Mathematics and Informatics at Vilnius University (VU).

Vilnius University (VU) has risen by more than 30 positions in the new QS University Ranking. VU now ranks 439th and remains the clear leader in Lithuania. This year's rankings include an unprecedented number of higher education institutions – more than 5,000 – all over the world.

The latest Global Startup Ecosystem Index Report ranks Vilnius as the best EU city for the cybersecurity industry. "It was not an easy task to achieve such results, but maintaining them will be even harder if it becomes a reference index and other countries start following it", says Assoc. Prof. Dr Linas Bukauskas from the Faculty of Mathematics and Informatics at Vilnius University.

Estela Marcinkevičiūtė, a third-year student of International Business in English at the Business School of Vilnius University (VU), has had a rather atypical academic journey. Her three years of studies and student life have been full of adventures, academic challenges, and extraordinary cultural experiences at three universities in the Netherlands, Hong Kong, and the United States.

The Graduation Ceremony of the Faculty of Mathematics and Informatics will take place on 25th of June, 9am in the Church of St. Johns in the Old Town (Šv. Jono g. 12, Vilnius 01123).
