Lithuania's Vilnius University intends to join the IBM Quantum Innovation Center at PSNC, as the institutions declare plans for cooperation in the field of quantum technologies, identifying new areas of R&D work and mutual development of competences in this area. The Letter of Intent starting the cooperation has been signed on May 10, during the Impact'23 in Poznan.

PSNC, affiliated to the Institute of Bioorganic Chemistry of the Polish Academy of Sciences, was the first institution in Central Europe to join the IBM Quantum Network in February, 2022 as an IBM Quantum Innovation Center. The Quantum Innovation Center at PSNC aims to strengthen competences in the field of quantum computing and support the development of applications of this modern technology, and has provided cloud access to IBM quantum computers over which computational experiments in various areas of scientific challenges were launched.

Vilnius University undertakes intensive activities to develop assumptions for new fields of study in the field of programming quantum computers using the knowledge and experience gained by students in the field of computer science and physics. The cooperation and support received from PSNC is an important step towards including this scientific unit important for our region of Central Europe to the group of partners interested in the development and application of quantum technologies.

Three national institutions have already joined the IBM Quantum Innovation Center at PSNC: Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznan, the Center for Theoretical Physics of the Polish Academy of Sciences and the Institute of Theoretical and Applied Informatics of the Polish Academy of Sciences (IITiS PAN). The Vilnius University is the first foreign research institution to join and explore closer cooperation with PSNC and IBM.
