The Board of Vilnius University (VU) Faculty of Mathematics and Informatics (MIF) has elected Prof. Dr. Paulius Drungilas as the new Dean of MIF for the second term.
On 10 March, the Board of VU MIF voted for a new Dean of the MIF. The majority of votes favoured the current Dean of the Faculty. The new term of office will continue for five years.
According to Dr Šarūnas Repšys, chairman of the Election Commission, the election was conducted without irregularities. The candidate has received strong support from the MIF Board. More than half of the members of the Faculty Board voted for him: fifteen out of the sixteen voters present voted for him.
Prof. Dr P. Drungilas has been a lifelong friend of mathematics. He started winning prizes in world mathematics Olympiads while studying at S. Daukantas Secondary School in Kretinga.
The newly elected Dean is pleased that the choice of mathematics studies at the Faculty is miscellaneous and varies from classical mathematics to data science: "The most important thing is that all studies develop abstract thinking, which is highly valued in the labour market".
