Graduates of the Faculty of Mathematics and Informatics at Vilnius University (VU MIF) received their diplomas during the winter graduation ceremony held in St. John's Church on February 3.

“In today's world of technology and artificial intelligence, it is important to remain the guiding lights of true intelligence and education,” said Prof. Jurgita Markevičiūtė, Vice-Dean of Studies and General Affairs of VU MIF, in her welcome speech.

The VU MIF ceremonies are unique as they start with the Lithuanian national anthem. This time, it was performed by opera singer Šarūnas Šapalas.

Ninety graduates received their diplomas this winter. Thirty-three students obtained their bachelor's degree in information technology, including three with Cum Laude honours. Forty young people have completed their MSc in Data Science, five of them with Cum Laude and one with Magna Cum Laude. Master's diplomas in Modelling and Data Analysis were conferred upon two graduates, Finance and Insurance Mathematics, to nine, two of whom were granted Cum Laude and one Magna Cum Laude.

Six students completed the master's degree in computer simulation, one of them with Cum Laude recognition.

Vice-Rector Prof. Edita Sužiedėlienė, in her speech, emphasised that those who graduated remain a part of Vilnius University: “You remain alumni of whom we are proud.” She expressed her happiness that the graduates successfully overcame challenges: “Together you grew personally and contributed to nurturing the academic community that worked alongside with you.”

VU MIF dean prof. Paulius Drungilas always emphasises that studies in this faculty develop abstract thinking. This is a significant distinction and advantage of graduates in society: “I invite you to use the acquired abilities correctly for the benefit of yourself and society.”

The head of the VU MIF Cybersecurity Laboratory, Assoc. Prof. Linas Bukauskas emphasized in his congratulatory speech that we live in an age where the technologies we all use represent tremendous progress and drive everything forward: „You, as system developers, will play a crucial role – shaping our country, its image, and its future “.

The congratulatory speeches culminated in a captivating performance by soloist Šarūnas Šapalas and pianist Justas Čeponis.
