PhD student Daniel Daukševič from the Institute of Computer Science, Vilnius University Faculty of Mathematics and Informatics (VU MIF), received the Best Presentation Award at the Doctoral Symposium held in conjunction with the 27th International Symposium on Formal Methods (FM 2026).

The FM 2026 Doctoral Symposium, held on May 19, 2026 in Tokyo, provides an opportunity for PhD students conducting research in formal methods to present their research and progress, and receive feedback and advice through discussions with fellow students and experienced researchers.
At the symposium, Daukševič presented his research entitled "Cybersecurity Requirements Assurance in Critical Infrastructure Systems through the Application of Formal Verification and Artificial Intelligence-Based Methods."
"This was my first international academic conference, so my impressions are the warmest possible," says Daniel Daukševič. "In my field of research, FM 2026 is one of the most important and highly regarded conferences, so the chance to present my work there became one of the highlights of my doctoral studies."
For the VU MIF doctoral student (supervisor Prof. Linas Laibinis), this was not only his first visit to Japan but also an opportunity to meet internationally recognized researchers and their doctoral students.
"Their research left a strong impression on me, and the discussions gave me new ideas and allowed me to look at my own research from a broader perspective," Daukševič recalls. "During the discussions, participants – both professors and PhD students – highlighted the relevance and importance of my research, asked about the methods I used, and shared their experience, insights and advice. I returned to Lithuania with plenty of new ideas and opportunities for collaboration, which I'll be working to put into practice."
The Best Presentation Award is presented to students who deliver outstanding presentations at the symposium, recognizing excellence in both the quality of the research and its presentation.
