The spirit of the Baroque

The baroque era in Lithuania is reflected in many monuments and instances of Vilnius, including the church of St. Teresa and the monastery of the Barefoot Carmelites

The church of St. Teresa offers an example of early baroque sacral building facades in Lithuania. It is similar to that of the "Il Gesu" Church in Rome, with its majestic curtain-like veiling of the church interior space, and its presentation of a structurally independent, laconic, yet elegant architectural distinctiveness. This is a tri-nave basilican church with a rectangular presbitary, above which rises a small blind cupola, and the side naves have been converted into low, communicating chapels.
