Research
The staff and the doctoral students of the Department are engaged in the topics of research:
- Internet technologies and information systems
- computer-aided geometry,
- data structures and algorithms,
- image and signal processing,
- scientific and symbolic computing
The Department is one of the founders of the UNESCO Associated Centre of Excellence for Research and Training in Basic Sciences at Vilnius University, and research activities within this Centre are presented there.
Project of the year 2000:
The free-form surface modelling system
The free-form surfaces are proven to be important in computer-aided geometric modelling and are met in many cases of practice. Despite of such a umbiquity, there are lots of problems raised by numeruous applications. The content of the research is to:
- make a theoretical research how to apply generalized Bezier surfaces and nonstandard n-sided patches for the modelling of free-form surfaces,
- design or modify data structures suitable to transform algorithms and principles found into standard spline schemes and structures,
- implement algorithms into software as an experimental modelling system.
