LitGrid

The Lithuanian Grid projects LitGrid and GridTechno funded byLithuanian State Science and Studies Foundation and is designed to give a rapid build-up of a Grid infrastructure, contributing to the enabling of the new member states participation in the European Research Area.

The LitGRID project aims to:

• Develop the research and education computing and communication infrastructure in Lithuania
• Integrate this infrastructure into the emerging BalticGrid infrastructure
• Bring the knowledge in Grid technologies and use of Grids in Lithuania to a level comparable to that in EU members states with a longer experience in the development, deployment and operation of Grids
• Further engage Lithuania in policy and standards setting activities.

The integration of Lithuanian scientists and specialists into the European Grid infrastructure will primarily focus on extending the relations of Lithuania to EGEE. But, experiences and developments in other Grid efforts, such as DEISA, CoreGrid, CrossGrid, NextGrid, DataMining Grid and SIMDAT will also be considered in establishing the LitGRID infrastructure and associated policies and operations.

The LitGRID consortium involves leading universities and research institutions of the country. The partners are leading universities of Lithuania, as well as academic institutions involved in natural sciences research.
