What is GRID?

The BalticGrid I project (started on 1 November 2005) was a 3 years long grid infrastructure project funded by Sixth Framework Programme of European Commission. The Baltic Grid consortium involved 10 leading institutions in six countries. The primary focus of the project was rapidly increase the grid knowledge and use its for building of grid infrastructure in Baltic States with the future goal to integrate in to the most extensive European Grid, the EGEE. The BalticGrid project was of high strategic importance for the Baltic States (Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia) and it is designed to give a rapid build-up of a grid infrastructure, contributing to the enabling of the Baltic States participation in the European Research Area.
